The Peter J. Tobin College of Business Undergraduate EIRP Students Participate in Junior Achievement
November 14, 2008
On November 12, 2008 six Tobin undergraduate
EIRP students volunteered for Junior Achievement at Brooklyn Lab.
Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) is a non-profit organization
that connects volunteers with students in grades K—12. Through
in-class activities, after-school programs, and workplace
experiences, students acquire the confidence they need to succeed
in their future careers and in life.
Presenting a "JA-prepared" Financial Literacy module to 9th
graders over a period of five hours, Tobin volunteers hoped to help
these youthful Americans have a better understanding of what is
going on in today’s global economy.
Shiesta Hudda, a Tobin undergraduate finance major expecting to
graduate in May 2009, was attracted to the volunteering program
because, “I want to help students better understand a business
world that I am also about to enter,” she says. “While I was in
high school in the NY metropolitan area, I was not educated about
CD accounts and money market funds and I hope our contributions to
these students sparked them into making wiser investments in their
future. Now when they turn on the news, they’ll be able to better
understand what is happening in the stock market.”
“This program was perfect,” exclaims Vishruta N. Patel, a Tobin
marketing major. “I was able to share what I learned in my courses
at Tobin and at the end of the day, the students learned aspects of
banking, stocks, and investment instruments. I look forward to
participating in this program again.”
