Tobin Students Ring Opening Bell at NYSE During Global Entrepreneurship Week

As part of NYSE Euronext’s sponsorship of Global Entrepreneurship Week, three St. John’s students were selected to ring the opening bell at the NYSE. Students were also invited to attend the signature event of the week entitled, “Mentoring Madness” at the NYSE. The initiative was designed to inspire all college-age students to embrace innovation, imagination, and creativity.

Moderated by Alexis Glick of Fox Business Network, Russell Simmons, Founder of Def Jam Records, Phat Farm, and RUSH Communications; Linda McMahon, Co-Founder & CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE); and Peter Thom, Founder of Ethos Water shared their thoughts on how to succeed as an entrepreneur.

“Stay with what you know,” advised Russell Simmons, “and know that you already have everything you need. Nobody can give you anything and if you operate from that perspective than you can never fail.” Peter Thom had a similar perspective advising that in order to be successful one needs to believe in their product wholeheartedly.

Over 56 St. John’s University students were in attendance and listened intently on the advice given by these top entrepreneurs who paved the way for so many.
